A New Law Dictionary and Glossary

[L. Lat. accidens, from accidere, to fall, to happen.] A casualty; an act of providence; an event that takes place without one's foresight or expectation. See Inevitable accident, Act of God, Casualty. In equity. Any such unforeseen event, misfortune, loss, act or omission, as is not the result of any negligence or misconduct.
