Apostill, appostillt And apostyle are used in old English writers in the sense of a marg^\ note, an answer to a petition or other writing, set down in the margin; and have been derived from the Lat. apponere, heeaose placed to the text in the margin. Hichardsan's Diet But quare if the word be not radically the same with apostles. See AppostilU, (q. V.) is still used in French law.
