An abbreviation of armiger, (q.v.) ARMI6ER.
Lat. [from arma, arms, and gerere, to bear.] One who bears arms; an armour bearer, or shield bearer, (Lomb. scilpor; Sax. scildcnave.) Spelman. An esquire, a knight's attendant. Id, An esquire; one who bears arms, or coat armour, (qui arma gerit.) See Esquire. A species of feudal tenant; a tenant by scutage, or the service of the shield; (psf servitium scuti.) Spelman.
