A New Law Dictionary and Glossary

[Lat. afticulus.] A distinct part of a writing or instrument, consisting of two or more particulars. Hence systems of rules and instruments, composed of various particulars, or arranged in separate divisions, are called articles; and the term was also anciently applied to statutes drawn up in this form.
