Association

[L. Lat. associatio.] In English practice. A patent sent by the king to the justices appointed to take the assizes, or oi oyer and terminer, to have other persons associated to them to take the assise, upon which patent the king sends his writ to the justices, by it commanding them to admit them that are so sent. According to Blackstone, writs of association are issued in pursuance of the statutes of 27 Edw. I. c.

4, and 12 Edw. II. c.

3; whereby certain persons (usually the clerk of assize and his subordinate officers,) are directed to associate themselves with the justices and Serjeants; and they are required to admit the said persons into their society, in order to take the assizes.
