Averment

[L. Lat. verijicatio.] In old pleading. An offer to prove a plea, or pleading. The concluding part of a plea, replication, or other pleading, containing new affirmative matter, by which the party offers or declares himself " ready to verify, ' that is, to prove it to be true. Termes de la ley.

In modem pleading, it is termed a verification, (q. v.) The act of justifying or proving a plea, as well as the offer to do so. Coweill, Blount Proof, in general. A latent ambiguity of words is supplied or helped by averment.
