Bacberend

Bacberende, Backberend. Sax. Bearing or carrjdng upon the back. A term applied in early English law to a thief caught with the thing stolen upon his back, {latrocinium drferens a tergo); as handhabend or hondhabende signified one who had it in his hand, (qui in manu remfuratarn habuerit).
