Berton. [from bar, a lord, and tun, a land or farm. Spelman, voc. Baro.] A word used in Devonshire, and other parts of England, for the demesne lands (praedium dominicum) of a manor; sometimes for the manor house itself; and in some places for outhouses and fold yards.
