A New Law Dictionary and Glossary
[L. Fr. chaud melle, from chaud, hot, and mesler, meler, to mingle; L. Lat. calida melleia.] In criminal law. The killing of a person in an affray, in the heat of blood, and while under the influence of passion; and is thus distinguished from chance medley, (with which, according to Blackstone, it is sometimes confounded,) which is killing in a casual affray in self defence.
