Cippi

Lat. [L. Fr. cipps, ceps.] In old English law. The stocks; an instrument for punishing offenders. Quare vi et armis clausum et cippos ipsitts abbatis apud BertorC, in quibus cippis, Henricus le Smyth nativus suus pro quibusdam inobedieniiis suis per ipsum abbatem positus fait, f regit, &c. Wherefore, with force and arms he broke the close and stocks of the said abbot at Berton, in which stocks Henry the Smyth his Aillein had been put by the said abbot for certain disobediences, &c.
