A New Law Dictionary and Glossary
[Lat. concubina, from concumbere, to lie together.] A woman with whom a man cohabits without marriage, as distinguished from a lawful wife. Where a man had a bastard son, and afterwards married the mother, and by her had a legitimate son, the woman before marriage was called concubina, and afterwards mulier. Glanv. lib.
