Demur

[from L. Fr. demurer, demorer, to stop, stay or rest.] In pleading. To raise an objection in point of law, and rest or pause upon it, referring its decision to the court; to object to the pleading of the opposite party as insufficient to sustain his action or defence, and refer it to the judgment of the court whether it ought to be answered; in the language of the old books, to abide in law.
