Felagus

Lat. [from Sax. fe, faith, and lag^ bound.] In Saxon law. One bound or pledgea for another. A friend who was bound in the decennary for the good behaviour of another; called by Spelman 9ociu9 individuus, and comes vitm; an inseparable companion, or companion for life, opelman in voc. A sworn brother. LL, Will. Conq. cited in Blount. Thefelagus was a very important person in the Saxon law, and took the place of a man's parents or lord, where he had neither. ZL, Edw. C<mf. cc.
