Fr. & Eng. [Lat. vis.] Validity; efficacy; power in law to bind or coerce. An obligation or law is said to be "of force," or "in force" so long as compliance with it can be lawfully coerced. The word had the same sense in law French. Voyde et de nul force; void and of no force. Britt. c.
