A New Law Dictionary and Glossary
[L. Lat. libera capella.] In English law. A chapel, or place of worship, so called, because exempted from the jurisdiction of the ordinary or diocesan. It is always of royal foundation, or founded at least by private persons to whom the crown has granted the privilege.
