Fr. eschetor, eschetour.j An ancient officer, appointed by the lord treasurer in every county in England, to look after the escheats which fell due to the king in Ins particular county. It was his duty to make inquests of titles by escheats, by the oaths of good and lawful men of the county impannelled by the sheriff, and to certify th^r inquisitions into the exchequer.
