Lat. [from cariare, (q. V.); L. Fr. cariage,] In old English law. Carriage; the carrying of goods or other things for the king. N^ullus vicecomes — capiat equos, velcarectas alicujus, pro CBiis Lgio fcudendo; no sheriff shall take the horses or carts of any person, to make carriage. Magna Charta, c. 21. A similar provision was contained in the statute of Westminster 1, c. 1. Ihtl preigne chivals, bqfes, chares, ne charets, neifes, ne bateux, ne auter choses affaire cariage; no person shall take horses, oxen, ploughs, carts, ships or boats, or other things to make carriage.
