the deputy collector may perform the duties of such collector: l.-When the collector is sick, or is temporarily unable to discharge the duties of the 'office, the provision is that he may devolve the same upon one of his deputies, but the collector and his sureties in that case remain responsible for the official acts and defaults of the deputy.
