An officer or agent whose business is mainly to take care of the money of ail institution, of a private person, or of a firm. The cashier of a bank is the executive of Bcer through whom the financial operations are conducted. He receives and pays out its moneys, collects and pays its debts, receives and transfers its commercial securities. Tellers and other subordinate offlcers are under his direction, and are, as it were, the arms by which designated portions of his functions are discharged.' Evidence of powers habitually exercised with the acquiescence of the directors of the bank deiines and establishes, as to the public, those powers — provided the charter is not violated.' He is the general financial agent. He acts, or is presumed to act, according to general practice, and the course of business; and this binds the bank in favor of one who possesses no other knowledge.'
