In old English law. To demand or challenge, to assert a right to a thing; to claim; to cry out, to publish or declare aloud; to cry, as a newly-born child; to complain. Clamans: claiming. Clamantem et auditum infra quatuor parietes: crying and being heard within the four walls, — applied where a child born was heard to cry, thus giving the husband and father an estate as tenant by the curtesy.
