Used in the old books for convefit, Litt. sect. 133. Co. Litt. 94 a, b. Cowell. The omission of the letter n after the vowel o was a very common mode of contraction both in Latin and French; as coventus for conventus; covenahle for convenable. Hence the English word covenant for the Fr. convenant. See Contraction.
