covered foundation

10 U.S.C. § 2246 — in this section

The term "covered foundation" means a charitable, educational, or civic nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, that the Secretary concerned determines operates exclusively to support, with respect to a Service Academy, any of the following:

(A) Recruiting.

(B) Parent or alumni development.

(C) Academic, leadership, or character development.

(D) Institutional development.

(E) Athletics.

14 U.S.C. § 1908 — in this section

In this section, the term “covered foundation” means an organization that—

(1) is a charitable, educational, or civic nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986; and

(2) the Secretary determines operates exclusively to support—

(A) recruiting activities with respect to the Coast Guard Academy;

(B) parent or alumni development in support of the Coast Guard Academy;

(C) academic, leadership, or character development of Coast Guard Academy cadets;

(D) institutional development of the Coast Guard Academy; or

(E) athletics in support of the Coast Guard Academy.

In this subparagraph, the term "covered foundation" means each of the following:

(I) An Individual Laboratory-Associated Foundation.

(II) A Federal Laboratory-Associated Foundation established pursuant to subsection (c)(1).
