Said by Blount and Cowell to be the same as the custos rotulorum. CUSTOS ROTULORUM (Lat.) Keeper of the rolls. The principal justice of the peace of a county, who is the keeper of the records of the county. 1 Bl. Comm. 349. He is always a justice of the peace and quorum, is the chief civil officer of the king in the county, and is nominated under the king's sign manual.
