The Cyclopedic Law Dictionary
One to whom an assign ment has been made. Assignee in fact is one to whom an assignment has been made in fact by the party having the right. Assignee in law is one in whom the law vests the right; as, an executor or administrator. See "Assignment." At common law
"The transferring and setting over to another of some right, title, or interest in things in which a third party, not a party to the assignment, has a concern and interest."

It is more loosely used to indicate any transfer or making over to another of the whole of any property, real or personal, in possession or in action, or of any estate or right therem.

ASSIGNMENT FOR BENEFIT OF CREDitors. An assignment by an insolvent debtor of his property, in trust for the distribution of such property among the assignor's creditors.
