The bursery or exchequer of collegiate and conventual bodies; or the place of receiving and paying and accounting by the bursarii, or bursers.

But the word "bursarii" did not only signify the bursers of a convent or college, but formerly stipendiary scholars were called by the name of "bursarii," as they lived on the burse or fund, or public stock of the university. At Paris, and among the Cistercian monks, they were particularly termed by this name.
