The Cyclopedic Law Dictionary

or CAUPE. In old Scotch law. A gift of a horse, or other thing, made by a man in his lifetime and liege poustie (lawful power), to the chief of his clan or other superior, for his maintenance and protection, and which was delivered immediately after his decease. Skene de Verb. Sign, voc. "Caupes." A species of heregeld (q. V.) CALUIVINIA (Lat.) In the civil law. Calumny, malice, or ill design; a false accusation; a malicious prosecution.
