In old Engcastles and public places of defense. Towards this some gave their personal ser\^ ice, and others, a contribution of money or goods. This was one branch of the trinoda necesaitas (1 Bl. Comm. 263), from which no lands could be exempted under the Saxons, though immunity was sometimes allowed after the conquest.
