The Cyclopedic Law Dictionary
One who conducts or escorts. In the law and usage of railways, a trainman who directs the movements of the train and is responsible for the execution of orders in respect to the same, and, where passengers are carried, collects fares, etc.; one who performs like duties on street cars and other like cars.
