DOMUS CONVERSORUM (Lnr Lat. the house of the converts). An ancient house or institution (Spelman calls it collegium) established by Henry III. for the benefit of such Jews as were converted to the Christian faith. This continued to the reign of Edward III., who, having expelled the Jews from the kingdom, converted the building into a place for keeping the rolls and records of the chancery. Spelman; Cowell, voc. "Rolls." It is now called the "Rolls' Office in Chancery Lane," though in Latin the old name is sometimes retained. Id. voc. "Master of the Rolls."
