A district or part of a town adjoining the principal city; as a faubourg of New Orleans.

FAUCES TERRAE (Lat. jaws of the land). Projecting headlands or promontories, including arms of the sea. Such arms of the sea are said to be inclosed within the fauces terrae, in contradistinction to the open sea.

Where these fauces approach so near that a man standing on one shore can discern what another man is doing on the other shore, the water inclosed is infra corpus comitatum, within the body of the county.
