Its nature is not known, Spelman reads fynderinga, and interprets it "treasure trove"; but Cowell reads fyrderinga, and interprets it a joining of the king's fird or host, a neglect to do which was punished by a fine called "firdnite." See Cowell; Spelman, Du Cange agrees with Cowell.
