GERSUME (Saxon.) In old English law. Expense; reward; compensation; wealth; especially, the consideration or fine of a contract; e. g., et pro hae concessione dedit nobis praedictus Jordanus 100 sol. sterling de gersume.

It is also used for a fine or compensation for an offense.
