The Cyclopedic Law Dictionary
It was necessary for students in the Inns of Court to keep twelve terms, comprising three years, for admission to the English bar. Each term was three or four weeks, including one grand week. "Keeping the term" was to dine in the hall once in each grand week, and once in each of two half weeks. The terms so kept need not have been consecutive, Robinson, "Bench and Bar."
