——In Commercial Law. A written instrument containing a true account of the cargo of a ship or a commercial vessel. As to the requirements of the United States laws in respect to manifests, see 1 Story, U. S. Laws, 593, 594. The want of a manifest, where one is required, and also the making a false manifest, are grave oifenses. In Evidence. That which is clear and requires no proof; that which is notorious.
