A sum paid to government as an sicknowledgment for a grant of lands, or any public office. Enc. Lend. NE ADMITTAS (Lat.) The name of a writ, so called from the first words of the Latin form, by which the bishop is "forbidden to admit" to a benefice the other party's clerk during the pendency of a quare impedit. It ought to be issued within six months after avoidance of the benefice, before title to present has devolved upon the bishop by lapse, or it will be useless.
