An easement of one person, or of any number of persons less than the public at large, to pass over the servient land of another in the manner, at the times, on the location, and for the purpose allotted or agreed for the particular way. Bish. Non-Cont.

Private ways are either (1) appurtenant, i. e., pertaining to some particular land, or (2) in gross, i. e., personal to some particular individual or individuals.
