In the civil law, a defender. VINDICARE (Lat.) In the civil law. To claim, or challenge; to demand one's own; to assert a right in or to a thing; to assert or claim a property in a thing; to claim a thing as one's own. Calv. Lex. To avenge; to punish. VINDICATIO (Lat.) In the civil law. The claiming a thing as one's own; the asserting of a right or title in or to a thing. The name of an action in rem, by which a right or thing was claimed.
