The Cyclopedic Law Dictionary
An obsolete word, which signifies a rod of staff, such as sheriffs, bailiffs, and VIRGATA REGIA (Law Lat.) In old English law. The royal verge; the verge; the bounds of the king's household, within which the court of the steward had jurisdiction.
