The operative and proper word of conveyance in ancient charters of feoffment, and deeds of gift and grant. Co. Litt. 9 a. 2 Bl. Com. 310, 316. Bract. fol. 34 b. The present do (I give) was also used, and may have been the more ancient form. Bracton employs this frequently in his illustrations. Bract, fol. 17, et passim. The future dabo (I will give) was used in the Anglo-Saxon grants. 1 Spence's Chancery, 44.
