Lat. [from de, priv. and vadiare, to pledge.] In old English law. To be discharged from giving gage {vadium) or pledge. Bract, fol. 102. This seems to be the proper meaning; devadiaius in Domesday signifying, without sureties or pledges. CJomll, Although it is also used in Bracton in the opposite sense, — to be bound by pledges, to have pledges taken. Bract, fol. 217.
