Lat. [from Sax. fleoien^ to float or flow.] In old English law. An estuary; a stream, canal or tiitch, where the tide ebbs and flows; {cestuarium, fluentum, seu canalis quern aqua fltiens ei refluent oceupaL) Spelman, Hence the name of Fleet ditch in London, and of the Fleet prison which stood near it.
