In old English law. A jury of twelve men sworn. Especially, a jury of the common law, as distinguished from the assisa. The jury clause in a nisi prius record, so ealled from the emphatic words of the oid forms: “Jurata pontiur imrespecium,” the jury is put in respite. Townsh. Pl, 487. Also a jurat, (which see.)
