A subsidy granted to the king; assistance in defending an action; assistance in the commission of a crime. In feudal law. Aid, ayde: a service or payment from a vassal to his lord, on certain occasions, mainly three: to ransom the lord's person; to make his eldest son a knight (pur faire l'eigne fiz chivalier); to marry his eldest daughter (pur l'eigne file marier).
