Approvement

In English law

Inclosure; the inclosing of part of a common, leaving sufficient common with egress and regress for the commoners; inclosure for the purpose of cultivation: cultivation or improvement. A species of confession, by which a person indicted of a capital crime and arraigned confessed the fact before plea pleaded, and accused others his accomplices in the crime, in order to obtain his pardon. Superseded by the practice of permitting the person confessing to give evidence against his associates, thas making him what is called in England queen's evidence, and in the United States, state's evidence, v. Approver.
