Barrister

In England, a counselor who is admitted to plead at the bai', — if as a sergeant or a King's or Queen's counsel, an inner barrister; if without, as any other, an utter or outer barrister. They were anciently called apprentices, apprenticii ad legem, or apprentieii ad barras. The name was also formerly written barraster.
