The sovereign power of the monarchy, especially in relation to the punishment of crimes. Crown law: criminal law, — the crown being the prosecutor in criminal proceedings. V. Pleas of the crown. Crown office: a department of the court of Queen's Bench, commonly called the crown side of the court, in which it takes cognizance of all criminal causes. Crown side; the criminal department of the court of Queen's Bench.
