Keepers; guardians. Cnstodes libertatis Anglise anthoritate parliamenti: keepers of the liberty of England, by the authority of parliament; the style of writs and other judicial proceedings after the execution of Charles L and before Cromwell was declared protector. Custodes pacis: conservators of the peace. Custodes placitornm corouoD: keepers of the pleas of the crown. Supposed to be the same with coroners. In the Roman law. Guardians; observers; inspectors: persons who acted as inspectors of elections, and who counted the votes given.
