In old English law

Election; choice. Electio est creditoris, debitoris: the creditor or debtor has the election. Electio est interna, libera et spontanea separatio unius rei ab alia, sine compulsione, consistens in animo et Toliintate: election is the internal, free and voluntary separation of one thing from another, without compulsion, consisting in intention and will. Electio fori: choice of a court. Electio semel facta non patitur regressum: election once made does not admit of recall. Electiones Hant rite, et libere sine interruptione aliqua: elections should be made in due form and freely, without any interruption.
