fern, femme, fam, L fr. A woman; a wife. Feme covert, femme couverte: a woman protected, — that is, married. Feme sole: a spinster; — trader: a woman deserted by her husband who does business as a, feme sole. - In English law. Feme sole trader: a married woman, who, by the custom of London, trades on her own account, independently of her husband.
