A general treatise on English law, supposed to have been writ-ten in the reign of Edward L; so called, as the author says, because written during his confinement in the Fleet prison.
In old English law
An estuary; a stream, canal or ditch, where the tide ebbs and flows; hence the name of Fleet ditch in London and' of the Fleet prison which stood near it
